Julia Michaels - Nervous System Review
Originating from Davenport Iowa, Michaels and her sibling Jaden (also a songwriter) moved to north of Los Angeles with her family at a young age. Michaels began singing at the tender age of 12. During her teen years Michaels gained some prominence as a songwriter after meeting Joleen Belle and Lindy Robbins. With r latter being a multi platinum award winning songwriter hailing from Los Angeles, having written Demi Lovato’s emotional ballad (which emerged as a hit) single ‘Skyscraper’ and Jason Derulo’s Want to Want Me amongst writing for various other successful artists. Through these connections Michaels began writing songs for Disney’s former alum Demi Lovato and Fifth Harmony (X Factor USA).
As for her inspirations, Michaels cites Fiona Apple, Laura Marling, Missy Higgins and The Fray as artists she has great respect for.
Flash-forward to the present, 2017 witnessed Michael’s first single titled “Issues”. In describing the song Michaels spoke how the song was an ode to her anxieties in a very pure and deeply personal way. With a soft beat and preppy feel, Issues
starts off as a conversation with Michaels own self before transcending into a powerful message of confronting ones issues (mainly involving love). Further addressing the other half, and their behavior and attitude in accepting these issues as well. Released through Republic Records, Issues

After the release of her highly successful single Michaels distributed her ‘mini album’ on the 28th

certainly pleases the ears.
